Each year, we have a focus and direction for the clinic for the year.  It often all stims off a single word or phrase.  This year that theme for the year is Longevity.  We thought it could apply to our patients and their goals as well.  So we want to share.

For most people, when they think about longevity for themselves, they think about living

longer.  But living longer may not be complete.  Living better for longer may be a better, more complete thought to what people mean.  Generally, people mean they want to live longer but also with a high quality of life.  Unfortunately, a lot of people come to this realization later in life.  Although, it is rarely too little, too late, the sooner you start making choices that focus on your longevity, the more likely you will add quality years to your life. This can look like many different things and can happen in stages.  For example: play recreational/competitive sports into your 30s and 40s, be able to do long strenuous outdoor activities into your 70s, be able to get on the floor and play with grandkids/great grandkids in your 80s or 90s. Prevent chronic disease at all stages of life.  Maintain long, healthy relationships with friends and family.

Whether it is lifestyle, nutrition/diet, exercise, stress relief, or life balance; making constant deposits now, pays huge dividends later.  We spend a lot of time with our clients discussing their short- and long-term goals. Often, we find that simply figuring out what the goal is 10 or 20 years from now and working backward can help to shape current decision making.  As a community, we are learning more and more about what we can do to improve our own longevity and even the longevity of people around us that we care for.  Maybe start 2025 looking at what your longevity goals are and how you can start addressing them now.  Making those deposits that will help you to maintain the quality of life you wish to have, when you are 30, 50, 70, 90…100.

Make better eating habits now to decrease the risk of medical disease. Exercise appropriately (not too little, not too much) for your current goals but considering your long-term ones as well.  Spend time with the people and doing the things that bring you joy.  Focus on the things that build the relationships that will last a lifetime instead of just taking rain checks…The term, the idea, longevity can be many different things. It can take many different forms.  It is a personal idea and principle when thought of in this way.  Join us this year in focusing on longevity and let us help you in the many ways that we can to maintain your health and prevent limitations later.
