Like a fine wine, better with age.

Updated: Oct 27, 2023

I was having a conversation this past week with a patient who had recently had some serious medical complications. He was lucky enough that after being hospitalized, treated in a care facility, and then receiving home health that he was able to get into see us and LPPT. As he was walking me through the last several months, we began chatting about what he had been doing for his health all those years prior. He had just recently turned 80 years old and shared with me his daily fitness routine. We touched on his diet and eating and to be honest, he had done an amazing job taking care of himself all these years.

So why did he get sick? This is a loaded question and honestly, it depends on how you look at it. Looking through our eyes (at LPPT) we see a man that BECAUSE he had taken care of himself all those years, he was able to RECOVER and REGAIN his life after such a major trauma. If he had neglected his health in his younger years, there is no way he could have recovered as quickly and as well as he has.

“Well, I guess I am in trouble because I have not been focused on my fitness at all in my life.” Nope, totally the wrong message. The best time to plant a tree was 30 years ago, the next best time is right now. This is what I tell people daily! As long as we are breathing, we have an opportunity to improve ourselves and prepare ourselves for the unknown.

Health and Fitness are infinite games. You never win health. You never win Fitness. They are ongoing games that you just try and get better at each time you play. Some days are good, some aren’t but the good thing is we have countless opportunities to improve.

My advice (for what its worth) if you’re just getting started………..start. Set small goals for yourself and try to achieve those daily, you’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish when you just start doing.
