IASTM, or instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, is a form of manual therapy that uses stainless steel tools to assist the physical therapist with muscle mobilizations. It encourages blood flow, increases mobility and promotes healing. By loosening and releasing adhesions in the muscle tissue, it has a neurological effect in the body’s system thereby decreasing pain and desensitizing the nervous system.
