Laughlin Pelvic Health

Updated: May 16, 2022

Laughlin Performance and PT is so excited to announce we are now offering pelvic floor therapy!

Over the last couple of years, our clinic has come to learn how valuable and needed this aspect of care is for SO MANY of our current patients and clients and the Overland Park area as a whole.

Who may benefit from these services?

Currently, we will only be seeing women for pelvic health services but hope to include males in the future – anyone with a pelvis could benefit from pelvic floor therapy. People with chronic low back and/or hip pain that has not responded to traditional therapy, pelvic pain, pregnant and postpartum women, women who have gone through menopause, or our very active population are some of the main groups we have seen great results with!

So, what does pelvic floor therapy consist of?

If you’ve ever been in the clinic, you know we do not ever just treat/look at one area of the body and it’s the same when it comes to pelvic floor PT! It includes an assessment of how the pelvis is moving in relation to our hips, knees, ankles, and spine to determine what other areas may be contributing to dysfunction in the pelvis. There is typically an internal component to the examination which includes looking at the 3 layers of musculature inside the pelvis assessing for tension, pain, control of the muscles, and if/how the muscles are moving in relation to your breathing. This can give us an even more in-depth whole body picture than what you are already used to at LPPT.

What can it help with?

Pelvic floor PT can help with chronic or acute pain symptoms, urinary or fecal leakage or urgency/frequency, painful sex, returning to exercise postpartum or after a long time away from exercise, and so many more things.

Pelvic floor therapy has been so beneficial for my own body and I am so excited to help other women feel better and get back to doing the things they enjoy without pain or leaking!
